Narrative Assessment - Roller Coaster Challenge

Next Steps:
  • Learn more about design and use this 'LAUNCH' process to carry out another design thinking project.
  • Carry out another statistical investigation; using a different graph to record survey results.
  • Independently choose to work with a wider circle of peers in order to extend your thinking and collaborative skills.

Maths Tidy Number Strategies for Decimals

Today, which is Thursday 3rd of August 2017, I did maths with Miss B, who is my maths group LC, taught me how to use tidy number strategies with decimals.

First, she taught me tidy number strategies. You need to find the number that is the closest to a tidy number (the tens), when you have found the tidy number you minus or plus how much you need to make it a tidy number. If you are doing addition, you do the opposite of what you did to the first number. It would be so much easier to add them together then.

But if you're doing subtraction, you do the same thing to the other one. Then you minus them.

Here is a example:

I learnt a lot and maths today was very fun!

My First Week Of Term 3 in Emojis!

In this Blog Post, I am going to do something a little different. Instead of writing a simple reflection, I'm going to select 3 emojis for what I have been feeling over this week.

Enjoy!
My first emoji is this one. I have chosen this sleepy, tired emoji to explain to you guys that I was super sleepy because I didn't sleep well the night before. I kinda waked up later than I expected myself to wake up, so I was probably late.

Smiling Face With Open Mouth on Google Android 7.1
My second emoji is this one. I chose this grinning emoji because I was really excited and enthusiastic these few days at school. I played with my friends a lot and it was really fun! I was really excited because... there's Swimming Lessons coming up!

Disappointed Face on Google Android 7.1
My third emoji is this one. I have chosen this sad emoji because nearly everytime I go to school, I get a tummy ache. Other times, it gets worse. Sometimes when I eat, I can't eat properly because I got a wobbly tooth and it hurts when I bite something hard with it.

Tidy Numbers Subtraction Strategies

What I Did

Today, Thursday 8th of June, I did Tidy Number Subtraction Strategies and decimals, and also word problems I had to solve. We had to finish a worksheet, and it had four parts on it. We had to choose a equation to do, and on the piece of paper, we have to solve the equation in three ways and write a story of the equation. One of them is 'Solve it Numerically', the other one is, 'Solve it Visually',  and the last one is, 'Solve it Another Way'.

What I Learnt

I learnt how to do Tidy Number Strategies and learnt how to do decimals as well. It wasn't that hard and it was very easy to do!

For Example...

My Favourite Moment

My favourite was when I got to do the equations because I like doing math word problems and I liked the worksheet as well.

My Reflection

I learnt how to do Tidy Number
Subtraction Strategies and decimals.

I remembered how to do it.

My Extraodinary Day at NYLD!

Last week Thursday, on the 25th of May, all the year sixes, including myself, rode on a bus to NYLD, which stands for National Young Leaders Day. It was fantastic!
We went there to hear what the speakers there would want to say to us.

A lot of schools went there as well, and the speakers told  that if we want to achieve something, we have to never give up! How we all did that was that we were all being capable and quiet so we could hear what the speakers were talking about.

My favourite part of the day was that we could get a book and a NYLD pen so when the speakers were talking, we could write in the book about what they were talking about and we could write the questions that we wonder about inside of the book. We also learn some new words that we didn't know about.

Next time I go there, maybe if the speakers were still there, I could them them that it was really fun and I liked learning new words and also finding out what they meant.

I was very, very, very Enthusiastic!!!

Narrative Assessment - Eye on Nature

Narrative Assessment - Eye on Nature
Learner:  Vivian                       Learning Coach:  Mrs Croll                   Date:  4 April 2017 Learning Area:  Science
Learning Experience:
On Tuesday 28th March, Vivian attended the Eye on Nature event at the Auckland Botanic Gardens.   The purpose of this trip was to provide Vivian with a variety of learning opportunities so that she may gain a deep understanding and appreciation of the fundamental processes that support life on the planet and to become a guardian of her living environment.
4Cs and Key Competencies:

Collaborating with others to create a healthy lunchbox and solve a food-plant activity.   Which plant produces which food product?
Vivian was involved in a variety of learning activities that enabled her to find  answers to her  curiosities through exploration and questions.

Creating a healthy lunchbox
Developing her capabilities as a scientist by grouping plants, animals and other living things into science-based classifications.

The learners went on a short bush walk to find out more about the relationships between the native birds and the trees.  They were able to ask questions - there were many curious learners.

Next Steps:
  • Share her learning with an audience, e.g. blog post, hui presentation
  • Investigate an area of interest in an iExplore
  • Support environmental activities around the school
